Mountaineer Room

Don’t be fooled by the Country French decor. Slip back to a simpler time and slower pace. The “cabin-chic” Mountaineer room with its original beaded-board paneling, pays homage to Southern traditions. Relive the Mountaineer’s pride in the collection of photos and race memorabilia recalling great moments in his life. Feel the Mountaineer’s presence in his painting by American portrait artist Rick Olson.

Sleep rested on a bed designed by Suzanne’s Uncle Elwood. View from your windows perennial gardens and a century-old oak tree adjacent to a cemetery that dates back to the American Revolution and beyond. Listen to the peepers in the Spring and whippoorwills in the early Summer. Unforgettable!

To every season there was a call. When he couldn’t sleep, he heard them all…from the Ballad of the Mountaineer by Suzanne V. Pabst

Mountaineer Room Testimonials

Thank you for a warm cozy spot in the mountains. We loved the country touches that mirror your spirit. The breakfast was hearty and generous.Aubrey & Melody Jones – Raleigh, NC
We awake to the chatter of a cardinal and his friends in the redbud tree outside our window and heard the mooing of a nearby cow. What a wonderful way to celebrate the beginning of Spring!Karen & John Lipovsky – Blacksburg, VA
We had a perfectly beautiful view which the Mountaineer would have enjoyed. For the rest, he never would have had it so good! You have a great flair for decoration, of color and homeyness. All modern Mountaineers would love this room.Nell Butler – Tidewater area
How wonderful it was to wake up to the sounds of horses neighing, cows mooing and, of course, the rooster’s crow! We enjoyed our delicious breakfast and the tour of the farm. The city-slicker in us won’t forget it!Paul & Gay Inskeeps – Treasure Island, FL
Being race fans, the Nascar memorabilia in the room was a great extra touch for our race weekend. The visit to the Wood Brothers Museum was also very enjoyable. Your close relationship with the sport was also an added bonus.Sebastian, Robert & John – Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
Dear Suzanne,
We enjoyed our recent stay at Old Spring Farm. There are some regrets, however:
We regret we couldn’t stay longer.
We regret not knowing the Mountaineer.
We regret not hearing a lone whippoorwill.
We regret not walking to the pond (don’t tempt the bull!)
Even these regrets and regret of no rain, we thank you for putting us up, and putting up with us. Thank you for the good breakfasts, the homemade breads and homemade jellies. Thank you for showing us the beautiful homemade pillows. We purchased two for gifts but like them so much we plan to keep them… We’re thankful we experienced Old Spring Farm.Cecil & Mary Mahathey – Winston-Salem, NC
